With time, skin on the eyelids becomes thinner and sometimes excessive skin can be caught between fingers. Such excessive skin on upper eyelids sometimes may cause a functional problem, lack of vision, so an individual needs to bend his head or lift the eyebrows to be able to see clearly. Lower eyelids are also prone to loose tightness when excessive skin appears, that in most cases requires removal of the fat tissue as well.
The surgery can be done in general or local anesthesia and depending on the type of anesthesia, there are different tests required by the surgeon and the anesthesiologist – in most cases those are laboratory tests and internist examination with ECG.
Surgery
The incision is made along the natural eyelid skin fold so when healed, the scar falls-in the skin fold of the eyelid and becomes invisible. During the surgery all excessive skin and fat tissue are removed from the lower eyelid. If there is need for both eyelids surgery – the upper and the lower eyelids could be done at the same time, or separately.
Patients leave the hospital only hours or a day after the procedure. Bruises and swelling last from 1-2 weeks. It is necessary to use compresses during the recovery period. More sensitive patients may feel some tingling, straining or lacrimation. The final result is visible in a few weeks, once the swelling disappears and the excision gets lighter and almost invisible.
Apart from standard swelling and hematomas, that are only temporary, in rare cases there is a risk in lack of eyelid closing and lacrimation during the recovery period.
Mr sc. med. Vladimir B. Stojiljkovic is a pioneer in regenerative surgery in our country – with scientifically based approach he gained a lot of experience in fat transfer, stem cells and growth factors extracted from thrombocyte enriched plasma. Hi was first in our country to do a natural breast enhancement, using patients own fat tissue and BRAVA method for enlargement.
